Alleged Bribery: House of Representatives Invites EFCC Chairman, Very Dark Man, and Bobrisky
The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into allegations of bribery involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In a significant development, the Joint Committees of the House have extended an invitation to the chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyode, to address these serious claims.
The investigation follows a resolution by the House to examine the accusations, which have raised concerns about the integrity and operations of the anti-graft agency. The inquiry seeks to shed light on the nature of the allegations and ensure transparency in the fight against corruption.
In addition to the EFCC chairman, two prominent social figures have been called to provide insight into the case. Social media influencer, widely known as Very Dark Man, is included among the invitees after releasing a voice recording that is believed to play a key role in the unfolding investigation. Popular Nigerian crossdresser and social media personality, Bobrisky, has also been summoned by the committee as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The House Committee’s investigation is expected to provide clarity on the bribery allegations, with hopes that it will strengthen the EFCC’s commitment to fighting corruption in Nigeria.
In a letter dated September 27, 2024, the House Committee requested the presence of the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyode, and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) to appear on Monday, September 30, accompanied by all officers involved in the bribery allegations. The investigation stems from a viral social media voice recording linked to allegations against both the EFCC and the NCS.
The accusations revolve around Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, a crossdresser sentenced earlier this year to six months in prison for naira abuse. According to the trending voice conversation, Bobrisky allegedly paid N15 million to the EFCC to drop money laundering charges. It also suggested that instead of serving his sentence in a regular prison, Bobrisky was held in a VIP facility.
The House Committee has extended invitations to Bobrisky and social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as Very Dark Man, who released the voice recording, to provide further insights into the allegations.
Falana Refutes Bribery Allegations
In response to the claims, Folakemi Falana, daughter of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, has strongly denied the bribery and corruption accusations involving her family, which were linked to Bobrisky’s reported prison sentence. The accusations, initially made by Very Dark Man, also targeted her brother, popular artist Falz.
Folakemi addressed the allegations on her Instagram, calling them baseless and defamatory. She revealed that two legal letters were issued by Falana & Falana chambers on behalf of Femi Falana SAN and Folarin Falz Falana, demanding Very Dark Man retract his statements within 24 hours or face legal action.
Stay tuned for more updates as the investigation progresses.
