Naira Scarcity: Cardoso Blaming Emefiele Childish, Diversionary — Ohanaeze Youths

On Friday, the leading Igbo socio-cultural youth group, Ohanaeze Youths Movement, dismissed Governor Yemi Cardoso’s criticism of Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as childish. The group accused Cardoso of attempting to deflect attention from his alleged incapacity to stabilize the country’s economy by placing blame on Emefiele for the current Naira scarcity. In response to Cardoso’s Thursday statement attributing the ongoing Naira scarcity to Emefiele, Ohanaeze Youths, represented by Nwabueze Obi, Ekwem Eucharia, and Ndukaku Chris, urged Cardoso to apologize to Emefiele. They suggested seeking Emefiele’s wealth of experience and knowledge to address the prevailing economic crisis. The group criticized Cardoso’s blame game, advising him to cease such tactics and instead learn from Emefiele’s expertise by visiting him in Kuje Prison, emphasizing the importance of Emefiele’s contributions in stabilizing the economy during his tenure as CBN Governor. The group highlighted Emefiele’s commitment to financial system stability and his innovative policies that aided the country’s recovery from the 2016 recession, citing Forbes New York’s recognition of his regulatory efforts in the face of global challenges.
